This week in ProRodeo barrel racing, the No. 2 lady in the world standings returned to the rodeo trail in a big way after a few weeks of downtime, and the bubble barrel racers showed that they meant business—here’s what you missed over the weekend.

No. 1: Carlee Otero, $9,554
The No. 1 high-money earner of the week in ProRodeo barrel racing was previously No. 22 in the world standings with $61,130.59 on the year, but her $9,554 amassed from winning the Golden Spike Rodeo in Tremonton and placing at the Horse Heaven Roundup in Kennewick are going to help inch her closer to the No. 15 position—plus she’s looking at some points earned in the Playoff Series standings. Otero’s been jockeying the wicked fast Blingolena, a daughter of Blazin Jetolena and out of a daughter of the great Dash Ta Fame, an eerily similar set of papers to the next horse on the list.
No. 2: Jordon Briggs, $9,409
Apparently when Famous Lil Jet, “Rollo,” (Dash Ta Fame x Blazin Black Beauty x Blazin Jetolena) comes back from a break, he gets down to business in a hurry. Briggs headed to the Northwest from Texas and smoked the first round of in Kennewick, came back to finish third in the finals and fend off world standings leader, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi in the aggregate to earn the win. She also picked up a check in Bremerton to bring her weekly total to a cool $9,409. Briggs only had 22 rodeos on the board before this week, and the minimum count required to compete at the National Finals Rodeo is 25, so she may finally be eligible to run in Las Vegas with her earnings now reaching the $150,000 mark on the year.

No. 3: Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, $7,400
Pozzi Tonozzi was on Briggs’ heels every round in Kennewick aboard the stallion SR Industry Titan, who captured the win at the 2022 installment of the event with former jockey Destri Devenport. She picked up enough to more than maintain her hold on the world standings race, adding to her $208,870.78 already earned over 64 rodeos.

No. 4: Summer Kosel, $6,248
Kennewick seems to be the rodeo that just keeps giving for the barrel racers this week. Summer Kosel continued her strong August haul aboard FireWaterFrenchFame, “Apollo,” with a win in the short round and a strong aggregate placing. Her $6,248 will aid her in defending her No. 14 position in the standings—she previously earned $84,299.24—as she looks to clinch her first trip to Las Vegas.
No. 5: Tarryn Lee, $5,811
Turquoise Circuit talent Tarryn Lee earned $5,811 on the week thanks to her win at the Kitsap stampede in Bremerton, Utah, and a placing at Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho, which should help her out significantly in the world standings race, where she ranked No. 33 with $39,321.30 earned on the year heading into this week.
No. 6: Ashley Castleberry, $4,923
Ashley Castleberry and Skyy Blue have been consistently on fire during the month of August. This week, it was splitting the win with Latricia Duke in Coeur D’ Alene and picking up checks in Kennewick that are further helping her efforts as she creeps up the world standings and works to secure a spot to Puyallup for the Playoff Series Finale. Castleberry sat No. 19 in the world standings with $66,270.86 before this week’s run.
No. 7: Taycie Matthews, $4,318
The sophomore competitor who just missed out on an NFR qualification and chance at the Resistol Rookie of the Year title in 2022, Taycie Matthews, spent another week quietly placing in Tremonton and Bremerton, Utah. Matthews has held at No. 5 in the world standings, and is looking to close the gap between herself and No. 4 lady, Lisa Lockhart. Matthews’ consistency has paid off to the tune of $107,504.54 won before this week in ProRodeo.
