Who won the inaugural Hondo Rodeo Fest barrel racing?
The 2024 Hondo Rodeo took place on the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, on Nov. 7-9, 2024, and saw Lisa Lockhart earn the win. The first round went to the 18-time NFR qualifier and Blazin Ta Betty. “Sasha,” was bred by Busby Quarter Horses, owned by Keith Nellessen and is a product of the notorious Dash Ta Fame and Blazin Jetolena cross. Sasha’s cross is Dash Ta Fame as her sire, and her dam is Blazin Black Betty by Blazin Jetolena.
Lockhart earned $12,000 for her Round 1 victory, plus placed in Round 2 and 3 en route to the aggregate4 title for a total earnings of $43,000.
Sasha’s full brother is Famous Lil Jet, or “Rollo,” that Jordon Briggs ran at the Hondo and won the second and third rounds aboard. Rollo is a two-time AQHA/WPRA Horse of the Year, mulit-time NFR qualifier and the same horse that helped lead Briggs to an aggregate NFR title and World Championship back in 2021.
The massive earnings also helped lock in the Maverick Award for top earning athletes on the weekend, which she split with team ropers Erich Rogers and Paul Eaves. Lockhart’s share was $16,600 for the award, bringing her total earnings to $59,600.
Hailey Kinsel earned reserve honors in the average on the now $1.1 milllion-earning mare, KN Fabs Gift Of Fame, “JLo.” On the mare bred and owned by Kenny Nichols and Dale Barron, who was made famous beneath Ivy Saebens, Kinsel won a total of $17,500 during their first weekend of rodeo competition together. Read about Kinsel’s plans to take JLo to the 2024 NFR.
