Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi added another major maturity title to her resume aboard Sir Epic at the 2025 Colorado Classic in Montrose, Colorado, June 12–14.

With nearly $40,000 in added money across the Colorado Classic Incentive Maturity and the $10,000 Open Futurity, Pozzi Tonozzi took home an estimated $33,000 across the board on the weekend across her wins from the event payout.

A solid Round 1 time and a reserve finish behind Jordynn Knight and Runnin Ron helped set Tonozzi and Sir Epic, a 2018 JL Sirocco Son out of So Very Epic by Epic Leader up in the aggregate ahead of their Round 2 victory. Full run recaps here.

Tonozzi knows how to strategize, and her decision to hit Colorado Classic wasn’t a wild hair idea—she’s been attending the event and cashing checks for over a decade.

“I’ve been coming to the Colorado Classic for years now, and I’ve just always enjoyed that event,” Pozzi Tonozzi said. “As a business decision and doing this for a living, it was a no-brainer. It pays great, it’s so organized, it’s relaxed, and the whole event just keeps getting better and better.”

The Sir Epic Project

Pete Carr purchased Sir Epic, or “Sir,” for his daughter, Morgan, to compete on. When it became clear the timing wasn’t quite right for the team to mesh, Carr called on longtime friend and world champion Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi.

“Pete wanted me to see if I could click with him and help him find his stride,” she explained. “I took him home and just started getting with him. At first I wasn’t sure—there were a couple of runs where I thought, ‘This might not work.’”

But things started clicking.

“It just got better and better, and we kind of figured each other out,” she said. “Now, he feels like mine. He’s strong, gritty, and he’s going to give you everything he has every time.”

Pozzi Tonozzi credits Sir’s foundation to Kassie Mowry’s exceptional training.

“Kassie did a great job with him,” she said. “He always gets to a spot where you can turn the barrel. Running to the first, you’re thinking, ‘Is he going to find it?’ and he always does. That’s a big credit to her program—those horses know where they’re going.”

Now seasoned and confident, Sir has become a key part of Pozzi Tonozzi’s summer plans.

Pozzi Tonozzi said the turning point for her and Sir as a duo came at the 2024 Pink Buckle, where she won a go-round on the Lazy E’s standard pattern on the large gelding.

“I kind of got him figured out there, and it’s been great,” she said. “He’s handled the rodeos well, the seasoning process. He’s just getting better and better.”

Tonozzi ramped up momentum prior to Montrose by winning the rodeo in Cortez, Colorado, setting a new arena record in the process.

“I just didn’t know what he was going to do in that setup,” she said. “But I’m thinking this is going to be a fun summer.”

Sir will be joining his Australian teammate, Bobby on the ProRodeo trail.

“I’m going to piece him in where I think he’s going to be successful,” she said. “I’ve got Bobby…for the big outside runs like Greeley and Calgary and the NFR Open. I’m not going to put Sir anywhere he’s not set up to win.”

A Family Affair

While Brittany ran down major checks in Montrose, her daughter Tinlee made a splash of her own aboard Spade—a talented ProRodeo gelding who’s moving on to his next competitive chapter, while dad, Garrett, and NFR team roper in his own right, was in the alleyway assisting.

“Jenna (Beaver) called me a couple months ago and said, ‘I have Spade. He’s 19 years old, and he can’t take the road. I just want to see him go to a little girl that’s going to enjoy him and win on him,’” Tonozzi said. “I wasn’t sure if Tinlee was ready…But it’s worked out really well.”

Tinlee went on to place second in the Open 1D average, a new class aggregate offering in 2025 at CO Classic reserved for horses not entered in the futurity or maturity classes.

“She’s having a blast,” Pozzi Tonozzi said. “We’re thinking about maybe going to the Ogden 8-and-under, letting her do that. She’s going to enter some amateur rodeos up here in Colorado. It’s more fun to see your kid win than it is for you to win, for sure.”
