In late fall 2025, an unusual sight popped up on the social media accounts of various rodeo athletes—coloring book images of their action shots decorated by children and adults alike.
The images from “Color Me Rodeo,” and the accompanying “Color Me Cowgirl” and “Color Me Cowboy,” are serving a greater purpose beyond that of an enjoyable pastime for all ages. A portion of each book goes to raise awareness and support the fight against human trafficking.
The coloring books are a passion project for Betsy Weinberg, a realtor, a barrel racer and mother of three young girls—Quinn, 10, River, 8 and Tatum, 5—with husband Seth. (The barrel racing world met Quinn when she won the Open 5D Average at Pink Buckle last year.)
After spending her formative years in Detroit, Michigan, and Toronto, Canada, Weinberg chased the Western lifestyle to dude ranches in Idaho and Wyoming. Later, she and Seth settled in Round Mountain, Texas, and built their dream life with children and horses.
While Weinberg knew that darkness lurked within the world, a viewing of the highly acclaimed movie Sound of Freedom that shined a spotlight on the horrors of human trafficking hit her on a visceral level.
“I don’t live in fear,” she said, “but if someone said, ‘Betsy, what’s your worst nightmare?’ I would very genuinely say my kids being taken from me and not being able to find them. I can’t even fathom. So when we went to see that movie, I’m like, ‘There’s got to be something that we can do.’ I can’t go down the Amazon River and save people, but what can we do?”
Her research into the topic hit close to home as it’s almost impossible to find somewhere that’s untouched by human trafficking.
“It’s not like in the Sound of Freedom, happening in a different country, it’s happening here,” she said. “It still sparks you the same way. How can this happen to people and children? When I started learning what’s happening right here in Texas, I just stared at the wall. I was like, ‘Seth, wait! Our kids are growing up here! It’s happening right here in all our cities and counties!’”
A friend told her about Unbound Now, an anti-human trafficking organization based in Texas.
“They are systematically addressing child and adult trafficking victims, providing wraparound care for survivors, seeking justice and mobilizing communities to sustain lasting change,” Weinberg explained. “They educate the public—all in counties right here in Texas and Louisiana.”
Now, she had to find out just how to help.
Her girls inspired her with one of their favorite pastimes, coloring. She found an app that allowed her to create coloring pages of their own photos. Of course, their favorite pictures were made from their adventures with horses in and out of the arena.
“I got to thinking, ‘Why don’t we contact some people and see if we can’t put a book together.’ A portion of every book sold could go to Unbound Now to support them,” she said.
The rodeo community, from contestants to photographers, jumped in with support.
“Our rodeo community is amazing,” she said. “I started calling everyone I knew. There are so many amazing people out there. I said, ‘Hey do you want to be a part of this?’
“I really explained to each of them that their involvement was part of something bigger. It wasn’t just a coloring page. Their image was helping put a collection of pages together that could save a life. I went into detail with each person to ensure that they knew who Unbound Now was and what they do.
“It was a yes across the board, photographers and people alike. I felt like it was a labor of love. It took me a year to make because I made sure everyone on those pages and every photographer knew what this was about.”
A village, she said, came together to fight for something important and worthwhile, and not talked about nearly enough.
The national human trafficking hotline number is on the first page of every book.
“Yes, they’ll create joy,” she said. “They’re amazing, fun and so different, but I also think to myself, ‘What if they just land on the right table one day? What if they’re in the right store, office or grocery aisle and can help someone that doesn’t have access to that number? I have this prayer and this hope that they’ll save a life one day. I hope that someone that needs it finds it.”
Color Me Rodeo came out in October 2025 and is available on Amazon.
“When someone buys the book from me, it pays for making the book, shipping the book and the payout to Unbound Now,” she said. “My main concern is getting the book out there.
“Sometimes, I’ll go into a bathroom at a gas station, and I’ll just leave a book. I try to share and donate as many as I can so this mission can just keep rolling.”
While individual book sales do help, Weinberg said she’s hoping that individuals and businesses will join her cause through wholesale distribution to better spread the message on a grander scale.
“Everyone has an opportunity to change a life and make a little money while doing it as well,” she said. “Anyone can buy and sell them. It’s set up so that stores, boutiques, rodeos or anyone that wants to buy from me at wholesale price can then go sell it for a profit, knowing that the charity is supported at their time of purchase.
“It takes an absolute village to bring awareness, help and hope, but it’s something everyone can be a part of. You just never know whose life you may save.”
