This week at a glance

Carlee Otero won the Puyallup finals in 13.85 for $13,900 and left the week No. 1 in the world by $13,585. Michelle Alley took $16,693 out of the same rodeo, more than any rider earned anywhere this week. Lisa Lockhart climbed three spots. Sixteen rodeos paid $205,630.

Editor’s note: Hanna in Alberta has posted leaders but no money and will be filled in here when it lands. The Defeat of Jesse James Days sheet reports no qualified runs in barrel racing.

Otero takes the world lead at Puyallup

Carlee Otero came into the week second, $220 back of Hayle Gibson-Stillwell. She was second in the Puyallup Bracket Two first round in 13.92 for $2,633, then won the finals in 13.85 for $13,900. That is $16,533 on the week.

Gibson-Stillwell was not at Puyallup. She was fourth at the Lewiston Roundup for $2,728, and the lead went from $220 to $13,585 the other way in a single Sunday night.

Alley tops the week and moves to No. 6

Michelle Alley won the Puyallup Bracket Two first round in 13.77 for $3,510, was second in the second round in 14.04 for $2,633, ran the fastest semifinal at 13.82 and was second in the finals in 14.15 for $10,550. $16,693 on the week, all of it at one rodeo.

She entered at No. 7 and sits No. 6 with $160,027, past Sydney Graham.

Lockhart climbs three to No. 10

Lisa Lockhart won the Tri-State Rodeo in Fort Madison in 17.75 for $5,100, was third in the Puyallup Bracket Two second round in 14.08 for $1,755 and third in the finals in 19.19 for $7,200. $14,055 on the week, No. 13 to No. 10, past Tricia Aldridge and LaTricia Duke.

Kathy Grimes won both rodeos she led going into Saturday, Lewiston in 16.79 for $5,456 and the Spokane Interstate Rodeo in 16.88 for $1,680, and holds No. 9.

Mayes holds the cut on a zero-dollar week

Makenzie Mayes did not place at Puyallup and ends the week on the same $108,542 she started it with. It still holds No. 15, because Austyn Tobey closed only $1,275, seventh at Tri-State. The margin is $10,483.

Katelyn Scott passed Mayes for No. 14 on $2,301 across Puyallup and Lewiston. Both riders are inside the cut, so that is a 14/15 change rather than a bubble one.

For what it takes from here, Number Crunching: What (Unofficially) Has to Happen for Barrel Racers Chasing the NFR runs the math on every rider still in reach, what the rodeos left actually pay a winner, and why a Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup seat is worth more than the gap it closes.

Projected World Standings: Top 70

This board starts from the WPRA’s posted world standings and adds what each rider has won at this week’s rodeos as the results come in. Paid rounds of a rodeo still running are included. It is a projection, not an official standing, until the WPRA audits the week.
