Twenty-four barrel racers are in Puyallup, Wash., through Sunday for the Cinch Playoff Series round at the Washington State Fair, running for $77,000 and four spots at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, S.D. The first performance ran Thursday night. Daysheets, format, payout and round-by-round results are below, and this page updates as each round goes final.

How Puyallup works

The 24 riders are split into two sets of 12. Each set runs two go-rounds back to back, one performance to the next. The top four on the average out of each set advance to an eight-woman semifinal Sunday, Sept. 13, and the top four out of the semifinal come back the same day for the finals.

Set 1 runs Thursday night and Friday night. Set 2 runs the Saturday matinee and Saturday night. Every go-round pays four places on its own.

The field is the top 23 in Playoff Series barrel racing points at the Aug. 24 cutoff plus the NFR Open champion, Caitlyn White. Points go to the top 20 placings at each Playoff Series rodeo, awarded on placings in the average, and a rider with no score or no time earns nothing. Money won here counts toward the WPRA world standings. So does money won at the Governor’s Cup. Both land inside the regular season, which is why the top 15 can still move on the last weekend.

The payout

Barrel racing is added $77,000 at Puyallup, paid equal with the other events.

Each of the four go-rounds pays $8,775. The semifinal pays $6,400, split $1,600 apiece to fifth through eighth, with the top four advancing. The finals pay $35,500.

What Puyallup sets up

The four who come out of Sunday’s finals fill half the Governor’s Cup field. The other eight seats go to the top eight in Playoff Series points at the Sept. 21 cutoff, the Monday after Mandan and Pendleton. The Governor’s Cup runs Sept. 25–27 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., with a purse of more than $1.5 million across all events and barrel racing paid equal.
