BarrelRacing.com coach, leading barrel horse trainer and professional barrel racer Sharin Hall has specific reasons for the training tools she uses. She explains in what rare cases she incorporates a browband, draw ropes and similar tools.
“A lot of people have asked if I use a tie-down,” Hall said. “I’m not a huge tie-down user. I actually ride in split reins when I’m training to keep my horses soft, supple and broke. Personally, I try not to use tools to get me there. Have I used them? Absolutely….I’ll use a set of draw ropes because those have some give, so if I’m asking for collection in the ribcage, it will give it back and release.”
