Matthews, McCaffity and Mayes Advance from Pro Division to WRC Finals at AT&T Stadium

Taycie Matthews, Madison McCaffity and Makenzie Mayes delivered three of the most consistent and fastest runs of the week to advance out of the Pro Barrel Racing Semifinals at Cowtown Coliseum and into the Women’s Rodeo World Championship finals at AT&T Stadium.

Matthews, of Wynne, Arkansas, led the average with a 39.527 on three runs. She started her week with a 13.186 to win Round 1, followed it with a 13.308 in Round 2, and closed with a 13.033 to win the Semifinal round — the fastest time of the week. Her efforts earned her $10,000 in total payout, including a $3,500 check for topping the 3-run average.

The 2017 mare, former AQHA/WPRA Horse of the Year Fame Fire Rocks was Matthews’ equine counterpart at WRC. “Poprocks,” is by Firewaterontherocks and out of WR Aces Fame by Dash Ta Fame.

McCaffity, representing Omaha, Texas, stayed near the top all week. She posted a 13.349 in Round 1, a 13.401 in Round 2, and a 13.209 in the Semifinals to finish with a 39.959 average. That secured her the No. 2 qualifying spot and a $2,500 average check.

Bachloretta, the 2017 mare by Damous Bugs out of Lois Lane DJ by Lanes Leinster was McCaffity’s choice for WRC.

Mayes, of Scroggins, Texas, rounded out the top three with a 40.135 aggregate. After clocking a 13.465 in the opening round and 13.567 in the second, she delivered a 13.103 in the Semifinals to place second in the round and pick up $2,000 in bonus money.

The Cowtown Coliseum recordholder was aboard her infamous 2018 mare Chicado Moon. “Rousey,” is by Guys Canyon Moon and out of Chicados Bully.

The three will represent the Pro Division inside AT&T Stadium on Friday night, May 17, where the event’s final round will crown a Women’s Rodeo World Champion and award the $60,000 title purse.
