Tilden Shofner has lit up youth events across the South all 2024 long, and now her sights are set on the 2024 World Championship Junior Rodeo in Guthrie, Oklahoma’s Lazy E Arena on July 23-28.

“I’m really excited,” Shofner said. “I’ve heard this is a really cool experience. I’ve never competed in the WCRA or WCJR, or been to the Lazy E, so it’s going to be really fun.”

Fresh off representing Texas in the Light Rifle Shooting at the National High School Finals Rodeo, 15-year-old Shofner’s got two outstanding athletes loaded on the trailer—Shiners Smart Okie and Crowns Are Cooler.

Shiners Smart Okie

“Shiner,” is Shofner’s 17-year-old standout pole bending mount. Fans may recognize the gelding from the team’s Hooey Jr Patriot Fort Worth pole bending win this winter, or either of their $10,000 scholarship wins in San Antonio. Shiner is a 2007 son of Smart Shiner and out of Zand Diamond Ella by Zans Diamond Sun.

“He’s a very confident horse,” Shofner said. “I’m just so fortunate to get to ride him. He’s been incredible.”

Crowns Are Cooler

“Munch,” has been Shofner’s main barrel horse for two years. The 13-year-old mare if by Crownroyal Frenchman and out of Diamonds Are Cooler by Cool Prospect.

“She’s my little diva,” Shofner said. “She’s sweet but can definitely have an attitude. But she’s awesome.”

Although she’s locked in for the Semifinals, Shofner’s seized the opportunity to compete for additional cash, prizes and points in the qualifying rounds while she gets comfortable in her inaugural Lazy E experience.

But don’t think this cowgirl is letting the success she’s had in 2024 impact her preparation for the WCJR. She’s going in with the same gameplan that’s been working all year long.

“I’m really looking forward to (WCJR)” Shofner said. “But I try to leave my old runs in the past. It’s the next run that counts. I’m just trying to stay focused on my game plan and executing it.”
