On night seven of the National Finals Rodeo 2023 edition, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi finally broke out of the bridesmaid position and finished in the placing most comfortable for her and Jets Top Gun with a first-place finish.
Tonozzi topped the round in an apparently effortless 13.47 on “Benny,” the reserve AQHA/WPRA Horse of the Year in 2023 and the same gelding she terrorized arenas from Reno to Calgary aboard throughout the summer months en route to a regular season earnings record. And she didn’t stop there. What’s Tonozzi been up to in Vegas?
- She crossed the $1 million mark in earnings just at the NFR, becoming one of only four cowgirls to ever hit the mark.
- Benny and Tonozzi have placed in or won six out of seven rounds
- She’s sitting No. 1 in the aggregate by over half a second
- Tonozi is seated No. 2 in the RAM Top Gun race with $132,825.82 earned during her 2023 NFR experience, while Ky Hamilton from the bull riding has $16,312.82 and steer wrestling’s Stan Bronco is on her heels with $129,358.78.
“I just don’t want this year to end,” Tonozzi said. “Like, does it have to? When it’s all over, you start back at zero the next year.”
- $30,000 Leg Lift: Emily Beisel and Liza Top Round 6 of NFR Barrel Racing
- Rollercoaster Ride: Sissy Winn and Scoop Add NFR Round 4 Victory to Pile
- Houston, We Have a Record: Summer Kosel and Apollo Achieve Star Status With Round 5 Win
- ‘It Was Kind of a Blur’ Lisa Lockhart and Levee Win NFR Round 3
