Emily Beisel

Emily Miller Beisel qualified to to her sixth National Finals Rodeo in 2024. At the NFR alone, she’s already captured eight go-round wins and fought her way to over $1 million in WPRA career earnings.

A first-generation barrel racer, Beisel attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where she made multiple trips to the College National Finals Rodeo en route to earning a degree in dental hygiene. She worked in an office and circuit rodeod as a hobby, until the tides turned and her ProRodeo career took off. Beisel’s built up a talented string of horses that have attracted their own following in the sport.

Beisel demonstrates riding and tuning sessions on her ProRodeo horses Namgis D 35, “Pipewrench,” and Vanilla Gorilla, “Trigger,” and Ivory On Fire, “Liza,” plus demonstrates a unique workout for Teasin Dat Guy, “Chewy.” In this series, Beisel also explains the story behind “Beisel Bands,” the internet-named rubberbands Beisel used to hold her hands down aboard Chongo at the 2020 NFR, along with various other skills that have helped her win when the chips are down.

Leslie Smalygo and JustAHeartBeatTaFame, “Gus,” captured the attention of rodeo fans in 2022 on the national stage when they broke arena record in the regular season en route to their first NFR appearance. However, Oklahoma natives have watched Smalygo win from the Western dressage, to pleasure, to reining arenas before taking to the barrel racing arena as a trainer for many years. Smalygo’s unique training approach helped her gelding Gus dominate at both RodeoHouston and the Calgary Stampede in 2024, earning both titles and landing her No. 2 in the tight world standings race heading into NFR 2024.

In Smalygo’s series on Ride TV, she works both Gus and Blazin Boss, the stallion she’s taking on the trailer to the Thomas & Mack in 2024. She works through additional training fundamentals, the proper use of whips and more, plus gives an in-depth look into her background and story as a professional in the industry.
