The Rundown September 8: The One With the Labor Day Races

Taylor Armenta won $22,463 in Las Vegas, Margo Crowther and Prisonerr won twice at Ocala, and Hallie Hanssen and JS Night Moves took the Cornhusker Futurity by fourteen-thousandths of a second, all recapped on this week’s episode of The Rundown on The Money Barrel.

Labor Day Barrel Blast (Ocala, Florida)

The World Equestrian Center in Ocala added $25,000 across the main classes, including two $5,000-added Opens and the $10,000-added Young Stars of Barrel Racing youth race. Saturday’s Open drew 286 and Sunday’s drew 270.

Margo Crowther and Prisonerr won twice, taking Friday’s Rodeo Run in 16.174 and Sunday’s Open in 16.006 for $3,761.
Megan Swint and Streak N Makes Me Hyper won Saturday’s Open, and with a fourth in the Rodeo Run that was $2,227 on the weekend.
The youth race drew 167 in Round One and 169 back for the average. Jade Smith and Wheeling To French won the 1D for $1,319, Ginsie DeWitt and Pronto Dandy the 2D, Calli Tenan and Ima Barbie Gurl the 3D, and Remington Buell and Tucker the 4D.
Buell and Tucker also won the 4D in Sunday’s Open, so they left Ocala with a youth average title and an open division win.
Brittany Dallaire and RSL Dancin Ta Heaven won the 1D in the two-run Open average for $868, with Jennifer McGraw and Good Times Ta Fame in the 2D, Brooke Meurlot and Watch Playboy Song the 3D, and Kathleen Diller and Fire Lilly the 4D.

B.O.B.O. Producers Gone Wild (Moses Lake, Washington)

B.O.B.O. Producers Gone Wild, presented by Best Of Barrels Only, added $16,000 across three Open races at Moses Lake, with 357 entries Saturday and 332 Sunday.

Michelle Alley went one-two in Sunday’s 1D on two horses, winning on La Magic Mike in 15.153 and taking second on The Goodbye Judge.
The Goodbye Judge was second Saturday too, and those two runs won the 1D weekend average at 30.443 on two head.
Ariel McClure won Saturday’s Open on GM Easy To Win in 15.172, then won the 2D average at 31.462 on Catalina Wine Mixxer.
Marca Taverniti won the 5D average on Frenchman Genuine Risk and was reserve in the 4D on Mr Ur A Fancy Guy. Ailee Aschoff and Ice Jam won the 3D average and Brittany Ford and Adons Dungot Thecash the 4D.

Buckles and Barrels for Bailey (Las Vegas, Nevada)

The 16th annual Buckles and Barrels for Bailey capped the Open at 750 entries at the South Point and nearly filled it three days running, with $25,000 added each day. The $500-entry High Stakes race paid back 90 percent.

Taylor Armenta won $22,463 on two horses. Hes Got Cat Style was second Friday, won the High Stakes for $7,594 and won Sunday’s Open, and A Smooth Knight added $6,057.
Breely Green won $14,142 between Blazin Mercedes and RS Beck, and Winter De Soto won $13,925 between A Classy Stel and Aintseenmedanceyet.
Amberley Snyder won $10,474 and had both horses in the top three of Saturday’s 1D, Tink Tink second and French Open third.
Natalie Sheldon and LDS Sucker Punch won $8,159, cashing all three days and taking the 1D average at 43.697 on three head.
Danilynn Barela and THlastwicked won Friday’s Open in 14.309, Haley Longfield and A Streakin Fiesta won Saturday in 14.403, and Armenta closed it Sunday in 14.271.
The other average champions were Jocelyn Fiske and Flit’s Robert E Lee in the 2D, Tenley Dailey and Famous Society in the 3D, Lea Orsburn and Martha On The Rocks in the 4D, and Ashlyn Selvaggio and Runnin On Faith in the 5D.

Cornhusker Breeders & Open Futurity (McCook, Nebraska)

The Cornhusker Breeders & Open Futurity ran September 4 through 6 at McCook with $58,500 added across the futurity, the derby and maturity, the Open 5Ds and the slot races.

Hallie Hanssen and JS Night Moves won both the Open and Breeders futurity averages at 30.303 on two head, by .014, and earned $13,594.60 on the weekend.
Caroline Boucher and VR Lifeinthefastlane were reserve in both at 30.317 for $10,525.20, after winning Round Two with a 14.951, the fastest futurity run of the weekend.
Annie Campbell and Darkolenna won the Breeders Derby and Maturity average at 30.893 for $3,292.20. Jessica Leach and Aint An Angel had the fastest run of the class at 15.001, and Patricia Finney and French Bugs Tu won Round One and finished third in the average.
Kim Schulze cashed on two horses for at least $8,986.20, placing in both futurity averages on Aint Seen Sassy Yet and winning the Senior Slot Race on French Me Or Else.

ProRodeo Recap: Ellensburg Rodeo, Walla Walla Frontier Days and the Magic Valley Stampede

Labor Day week ran 27 ProRodeo barrel races, two of them Cinch Playoff Series stops, and the Ellensburg Rodeo in Ellensburg, Washington, and Walla Walla Frontier Days in Walla Walla carried the week.

Summer Kosel and Apollo won the Ellensburg average at 54.01 on three head for $4,640, out of a rodeo that added $40,000. Lisa Lockhart and Rosa won the first round, Blake Molle and LaLa the semifinals in the mud, and Kathy Grimes and KG Just Money the short round.
Heidi Gunderson and Wonder If IM Lucky were the top earners at Ellensburg at $8,287, out-earning the average champion by $307 on placings alone. That was her whole week, and it moved her from 23rd to 21st.
Grimes won three rodeos and $13,723, more than anyone in the country, all of it on KG Just Money: Walla Walla in 17.04, Plains, Montana, and the Ellensburg short round. She moved from 11th to ninth at $121,864 and is $13,752 clear of the cut.
Andrea Busby was second at Walla Walla for $4,906 in an $8,094 week and moved from 21st to 20th.
Emily Beisel was third at Walla Walla on Olie and won more this week than either rider ahead of her. She is third in the world at $182,132, with Sydney Graham sixth at $151,793.
Tricia Aldridge and Adios won the Magic Valley Stampede at Filer, Idaho, in 16.80 and cashed four checks for a $9,534 week, moving from 13th to 10th at $115,700. Austyn Tobey was second at Filer, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi third and Katelyn Scott fourth.
Scott holds the last NFR spot at $108,112 and Tobey is 16th at $96,784, with the gap between them going from $8,317 entering the week to $11,329 leaving it.
Hayle Gibson-Stillwell leads the world at $186,077 with Carlee Otero second at $185,857, a margin of $220 that one check turns over.
Lockhart entered the week on the bubble and left it 13th at $111,906 on an $11,674 week. Kosel won $11,305 on Apollo, moved from 19th to 17th and cut her deficit to the cut to $15,428.
Tayla Moeykens won Evanston, Wyoming, and added second at Dillon and third at Plains for a $6,337 week. She is eighth in the world at $136,182.
