The Eastern Ruby Buckle barrel race in Memphis, Tennessee, is happening Oct. 23-26, 2024 and offers some of the best horse and rider combinations in the country an opportunity to run for over $1.1 million in prize money across futurity, derby, open, youth, non-pro and first-time Ruby Buckle competition.

Eastern Ruby Buckle Derby Results
Round 1
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, multi-time NFR qualifying barrel racer, Carlee Otero set the pace early on aboard Blingolena, the 2018 gelding by Blazin Jetolena out of Dash Of Bling by Dash Ta Fame. Their time of 14.825 proved worthy to hold through 180 entries and earn the 1D victory. “Sly,” helped Otero qualify for the 2024 NFR and was bred by Busby Quarter Horses, who received $638 for the win as breeders, plus $638 to Blazin Jetolena. Otero, both owner and rider of Sly, earned $5,100.

In the 2D, it was Caleb Cline and Gotta Be Heavenly, the 2017 gelding by JL Dash Ta Heaven out of Gotta Be A Red Nick by Dr Nick Bar who earned the $2,400 win for owner Cline in 15.576 seconds. For breeder Jud Little, there’s $300 in the deal, plus another $300 to the stallion.
Round 2
After a knocked barrel in Round 1, the million-dollar The American Rodeo champions, MJ Segers Fast Lane blasted a 14.715-second run to earn the $5,100 round win for owners Grant & Rayel Little. The win also paid $638 to stallion The Goodbye Lane and to breeders Mark & Linda Jarvis.

Average
The Round 1 champions, Carlee Otero and Blingolena bested their first run in 14.747 seconds, earning the second-place finish in the go for $5,100 to Otero and $425 each to Blazin Jetolena and Busby Quarter Horses. In the aggregate, Otero’s 29.572 on two runs paid to the tune of $10,200 to Otero and $1,175 to stallion and breeder.
Ruby Buckle Futurity Results
Round 1
In the futurity, it was a tight battle at the top between Kassie Mowry and Bryanna Haluptzok, but Mowry’s 14.846 on Goodbye Sophie nosed out Haluptzok’s 14.848 on Tres With Pizazz to earn the $8,000 victory for herself as the owner, plus $1,000 for breeding the 2020 mare. She is by The Goodbye Lane, who also received $1,000 for the win and out of Famous Sophie by Dash Ta Fame.
Notably, Ashley Schafer came in the No. 3 and 4 positions in the 1D on Fiesta By Design and LeRoi, respectively to set herself up well within striking distance for tomorrow’s aggregate conversation on a pair of 14.9’s. She also totaled up a cool $10,250 earnings on two runs before rollovers or sidepots.
In the 2D, Georgia’s tough cowgirl Nicole Monroe and LM Pull The Trigger earned the title with a 15.596, worth $4,800 for owner LeLouise Davis. The 2020 black gelding by Sun Frosted Rocket and out of The Power of Perks by Dash For Perks also earned $600 for his sire and $600 to breeders Lamar & Lisa May.

Round 2
Kassie Mowry and Goodbye Sophie once again captured the round win, but with a 14.720 to add $10K more to the mare’s lifetime earnings. On her heels, Michelle Alley and Lipstick N Stilletos went 14.810 after a downed barrel in Round 1. Also receiving second round redemption in the No. 3 position was Jolene Montgomery aboard MCM Tres A Legacy.
Manors Sweet Sting and Patti Hovland captured the 2D win with a 15.475. The 2019 stallion by Feel The Sting and out of Manors Lady Jet by Manors Nick Bar is owned by Holland, who earned $4,800, bred by Hovland, worth $600 for the Wisconsin resident and $600 to the stallion.
Average
With Mowry’s sweep of the rounds, she clearly won the aggregate on two runs with a 29.556 on two runs, worth $17,000 to Mowry as the owner, $2,000 as the breeder and $2,000 to The Goodbye Lane.
Behind her, Schafer finished second and third in the aggregate, with reserve honors going to Fiesta By Design and the No. 3 finish going to Le Roi.

Round 1
The million-dollar earning 10-year-old, Dusky Lynn Hall was back in action in Memphis, notching a round win on her Aint Seen Nothin Yet gelding, Aint Seen Famous Yet. Hall earned $900 on the 2014 gelding out of A Nasty Chick by Its Royal Time, plus $113 to stallion and to breeder Kaylee Little.

Rookie Ruby
Girl You Look Famous and Kaily Richardson already banked around $2,500 for their 1D futurity placing, but they also won the first round of the Rookie Ruby on a rollover. The 2019 mare by Freckles Ta Fame and out of Signofaluckysaint by First Class Sign went 15.098 to earn the $2,850 win for herself as the owner, $356 as the breeder and $356 to stallion.
