Kaden Burger kept her momentum rolling at the 2026 Patriot in Fort Worth, topping the Cinch Young Guns Hooey Jr. Last Chance Qualifier for $12,500 before returning to win the 19 & Under Barrel Racing Semifinals for another $3,801, securing her place in Sunday’s championship round and taking home a total of $16,301.
The 19-year-old barrel racer delivered a 15.257 to win the Last Chance Qualifier, then followed it with another standout performance in the semifinals, clocking a 15.146.
Burger’s success came aboard Kellie Sun, a mare she personally transitioned from a roping prospect into a top-tier barrel horse.

“She just worked picture-perfect for me,” Burger said. “She gains so much speed so fast—I don’t even have time to think between the barrels.”
Originally raised by well-known breeders Marty and Shayla Powers, the mare found her true calling in the barrel pen after Burger took over her training. The partnership proved especially valuable after Burger’s seasoned horse was sidelined with an injury, prompting the young trainer to take a chance on her up-and-comer.
“We just went for it,” Burger said. “That first run was like a jackpot run, and when I saw my name at the top, I was shocked.”
A third-generation barrel racer, Burger’s success is rooted deeply in family tradition. Her grandmother, World Champion Barrel Racer Mary Burger, remains a major influence and supporter, while her mother, PJ Burger and aunt, Ivy Hurst have also helped shape her horsemanship and competitive mindset. Time spent assisting her aunt following an accident gave Burger a new perspective on training and preparation.

“It’s helped me see things differently—different styles, different ways to think about runs,” Burger said.
With more than $16,000 already earned at the Patriot and a finals spot secured, Burger headed into championship Sunday with full confidence.
