Final Cowgirls Duke it Out for 2024 NFR Qualifying Positions

Final cowgirls battling for NFR barrel racing position

The final hours of the WPRA ProRodeo regular season are coming to a close, and the NFR field is unofficially on lock as results roll in from across the country and the bubble barrel racers battle it out.

Here’s the rodeos and events we’re tracking during ProRodeo’s last regular season weekend in 2024.

The Sioux Falls situation

Two rounds are in the books at the Cinch Playoffs Governor’s Cup, (if you’re looking for the roster, horsepower notes or play-by-play of the rounds, click here) which means that the top eight from the rodeo are advancing to today’s Semifinals, and four cowgirls are out. The advancing athletes who qualify for the Semifinals are guaranteed a check of $3,611 and have the potential to earn up to a total of $30,000 if they take the victory in the Finals tonight.

Editor’s Note: Yes, the theoretical standings below will reflect the $3,611 added into each of the top eight’s total because they’re guaranteed that amount in their pocket.)

Jordon Briggs’ downed barrel in Round 1 may have made the difference in an NFR qualification for the 2021 World Champion. She came back strong in Round 2 for a third-place finish, but has unofficially turned her rig toward home for the season after leaving Sioux Falls.

Shelley Morgan’s fourth-place go-round check and Semifinals advancement, however, may have saved her 2024 NFR dreams. If she advances to the final four tonight, she’ll be able to celebrate a locked-in qualification.

LaTricia Duke and Andrea Busby’s weekend efforts both locked in their first NFR qualifications unofficially. They’re both moving on at Sioux Falls, plus the cowgirls flew to California on Friday morning to head to Poway for slack. They’re sitting in the money at that rodeo, serving as defense for Morgan and Otero, who were both inside the top 15 entering the weekend.
