Halyn Lide Takes Cowboy Christmas Bragging Rights, Greeley Stampede Title With $32K ProRodeo Week

It's the merriest time of the year (for rodeo athletes).

The days surrounding the Fourth of July national holiday in the United States are referred to a “Cowboy Christmas,” for rodeo athletes, and you can keep up with all the ProRodeo barrel racing action in the US and Canada all week long here.

Here’s our recap of the top three money earners per our calculations so far as official results roll in.

No. 1: Halyn Lide, $32,162

Halyn won the Greeley Stampede aggregate with the fastest time of the week in the final round, taking home $9,711 for that event. for $9,700 and Oakley, Utah, for $7,708. After Ponoka, Halyn was 16th in the world, and adding another $17,000 to her earnings in the world standings and only helping her climb.

No. 2: Emily Beisel, $30,290

Emily Beisel had an impressive run during Cowboy Christmas, winning at least $30,920 despite her schedule being cut short as she prepared for the Calgary Stampede starting on July 5th. She won over $11,000 at St. Paul on Teasin Dat Guy, “Chewy,” and another $1,600 on Ivory On Fire, “Liza,” at Red Lodge.

No. 3: Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, $24,602

Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi won well over $24,602 per our results so far during the 4th of July run before heading to Calgary. Riding SR Industry Titan, she secured second place in the first round at Greeley, won the second round, and earned $6,520. At Cody, they ran the only 16-second time to win $11,049 with a 16.95. They also won Killdeer with a 16.86 for $5,002. Brittany, sitting No. 30 in the world with $29,000 won going into the week, received a significant boost towards her potential 18th NFR qualification.

Additional Highlights

Emily Beisel kicked off Cowboy Christmas at Ponoka, finishing third in the round on Chongo. Due to footing issues, she switched to Liza for the showdown and won it by over 0.3 seconds with a 17.38, securing the average title and a $6,888 check. Liza also earned the reserve champion title, with Emily and her team winning over $17,000 in Canada. Halyn Lide and Keeper had a great start to Cowboy Christmas, winning the first round and placing in the average and showdown for over $14,000.

The highlight at Ponoka was Lindsay Sears and SME One Of a Kind, her stud by First Down Dash out of her 2x World Champ mare Martha. Encouraged by her friend Angie Meadors, Lindsay returned to Ponoka, where she had won 12 years ago on Martha, and Mojo, her stud, proved he could follow in his mother’s footsteps, even in the rain and mud.
