On the second day of competition inside the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Brandon Cullins and his The Goodbye Lane progeny, MJ Segers Fast Lane not only snagged the Round 2 and aggregate derby wins at the Pink Buckle, they did it in record-breaking fashion.

The 2017 mare by The Goodbye Lane and out of SKS Running Faucet, by Diamond Faucet clocked a 16.521 on the Lazy E’s standard pattern that brought the crowd to their feet on the second day of the $650,000 derby. That run was worth a cool $16,000 to Grant & Rayel Little as the owners, $2,000 to Mark and Linda Jarvis as owners of The Goodbye Lane and another $2,000 to the Jarvis family as the breeder.

In the first round, Cullins and MJ Segers Fast Lane warmed up with a 17.061 that earned the Littles $1,660, and Jarvis family $180 as the stallion owners and $180 as breeders.

The biggest payday for Cullins came with the overall aggregate win, worth $32,000 to the Littles and $4,000 times two to the Jarvis family.

The Goodbye Lane Effect

  • The Goodbye Lane progeny have a certain swagger to them at Pink Buckle events. In 2018, Vauna Walker and French Goodbye won the inaugural futurity with a 16.567 inside the Lazy E, a time that wasn’t rivaled until Cullins’ The Goodbye Lane of choice caused an upset five years later.
  • On the first day of Pink Buckle competition in 2023, Stacy Glause and SG LifeintheFastlane, a The Goodbye Lane gelding earned the first round win of the Derby. Click here to read about the win.

MJ Segers Fast Lane

Cullins and MJ Segers Fast Lane have a history of coming in clutch at the Buckle events. This summer in South Jordan, Utah, Cullins notched a round win on the mare. Recently, they made noise at the Fizz Bomb Classic and Breeders’ Challenge races, as well. The mare had $87,914 in QData earnings prior to the Pink Buckle race, so that number will nearly double with her $61,800 earned before rolling over to any sidepots or the Open race.
